vipes... !! iit kgp..

          From long time i was thinking about blogging..., was waiting for some 'right moment'... finally felt, that moment is never going to come, unless i start writing.., So... here is my first post.., its on vipes @.., wats vipes?? hold on..., u will come to know..., the very reason for which im posting this...,  i will try to keep it short and be informative..,

          I had no confusion about higher studies, when I went for job after my engineering..., i wanted to work..., Things are not always as we think...,  Finally I ended up with MTech in vipes @iit kharagpur.. VIPES is Visual Information Processing and Embedded Systems. Its a distinct post graduation course offered by the department of Electronics and Electrical Communication Engineering in IIT Kharagpur. Many people are not aware of this course and    people who know are reluctant to take up this course, since its not a conventional course like Microelectronics and Telecommunication. My GATE rank was not so good, and I didnt have much options, luckily I got this course.

          Let me brief you about the content of the course..., Course is more aligned towards software side.., Before starting this course, i hardly ever wrote an efficient code.. i knew about some coding stuff, but later i realized that was nothing.., Image processing and Embedded Systems(ES) were the core subjects in first sem..., while studying ES, i felt..., hey wat im studying..., there is more to ES than i thought, which i came across later..., For electives there is an option of taking courses including subjects of any other stream... Data Structures, Operating Systems and Algorithms are important subjects that are offered.., I had no clue about these subjects earlier..., These things matter when you are coding or developing some application.., you will study about multimedia, signal processing subjects or else you can take up some vlsi subjects.., 

          Many people ask about placement scenarios for vipes..., Many people are more inclined towards going to vlsi or core hardware profiles as they would have done their graduation in ECE department..., Thats fine..., these things matter..., What i want to say is, you can go to hardware/vlsi profile being in vipes, as you can take vlsi subjects during your course work.., So if you dont get vlsi course, still you can go with vipes.., The issue is, few vlsi companies dont allow vipes for placement.., at the same time some companies allow..., so there are odds..., you can take your chances..., There are lot of examples of people getting hardware profile being in vipes.., 

          VIPES in itself is not a bad course either..., I am very happy to have finished my mtech in this course..., it is not just the placement.., but the skill set that i have acquired during this course.., Since i had background of electronics and now this course adds more value to my profile..., The course is a total package, which offers lot of things and gives the freedom in choosing our area of work... Placement scenario is very good for vipes.., you can see the stats..., The reason for writing this article was to let people know about the course which they have not heard of much.., I know lot of ECE people hate coding after their graduation but there are lot of nice things associated with it...,

Here is a summary of course work.... 

Key subjects : image processing, embedded systems, data structures, operating systems, algorithms, pattern recognition, multimedia, DSP or some courses from other streams.., 

other tools/skills: opencv, matlab, C, C++

The journey in iit kgp was very joyful and at the same time it was very enriching. It has opened up lot of things for me and for every one who was /is /will be part of it...,
